after several hours of working in ideation for the poster makes my eyes dizzy...(@_@)...plus, after many hours of re-polishing my book and webpage.....sigh...half dead now...(x_x)....so here are some quick comps..........but now I think I know exactly what I want to do for my poster concept......will post that once I've something.....(^_^)...!

Gutenberg Website Ideation - Karen Chan

For my website, I also chose to focus on metal type. The navigation to different sections of the single page will be on the left side. The content area, which scrolls, is centered below the heading. On the left side is a column of thumbnails for various images related to metal type and Gutenberg. I will probably add a small footer as well. There are links at the end of each section that returns you to the top of the page.

Maria Alvarez - Summary of Concept and Cover

For this project, My book "Print and Movable Type" is mainly focused on the history of movable type. I discussed several techniques of movable type such as metal type, wooden type and also woodblock printing all of which date back to some of the earliest Chinese Dynasties. My project 2 was based on Johannes Gutenberg who is the "Father of Type". I included the significance of his invention, which was the printing press because it was a huge impact on the history of type.

My concept is derived from the topic I had for the concept map.  When doing the research on design and typography in The Netherlands I noticed that the currency there was really amazing.  I then found out that it was gone because the country turned to the Euro.  My book is going to be about the Dutch Guilder and how beautiful the designs are on the coins and bills, and how terrible the uniformity of the Euro is.

Summary of Concept

The book that I am doing is entitled “Type Technology: A History”. My original Project 2 topic was about Gutenberg, so I felt that making a book on the technology of type would be a good extension. The premise for the book is simple enough: I go through all the techniques contributing to the technology behind type, starting with handwriting and calligraphy, going into mechanical type, and ending with digital type. As far as the collateral for the book, I am planning to design them as promotional materials for the book.

alright, so here is my first two comps for my webpage. i am still work on it, but I am pretty satisfy with my layout. however, need to get into details and polish my types.

does anyone know how to insert space for HTML in Dreamweaver? because I am trying to do that to fix the quote from Peter Bil'ak...josh or anyone? (^_^) thx u!

version1: this is my original concept of using simple and straightforward method to describe complex and creative idea (experimental typography). The concept is very similar to today's blog template, but it's html...and I think it looks fine to deliver all the necessary message within a page.


version 2: I decide to change my color to full saturated magenta, because since the topic is "experimental typography", I should do something unusual and extraordinary...therefore, i try something that I normally won't do or nearly my style.......as a result, it came out quit nice, to me perhaps....lol...haha...so i guess i will keep experiment it....(^_^)

Here are my style guides. Body copy is Baskerville bold 12/14.4. Captions are Helvetica 8/9.6. Colors are just my text. Text will be black. Pictures are very colorful so no other colors will be used.

Concept Summary-Kimberly

The subject of my book is International Style in your everyday life. It will consist of photos that I have taken of design around San Francisco, that were influenced by International Style. There will be three chapters: corporate identity, advertisements, and wayfinding/information design. Each chapter will have photographed examples of the topics and text to go with it. The text will explain what international style is, where it came from, and how it is still so popular today.

This is my temporary cover. The cropped letters in the background will be mixed up and none will repeat. The 'Experimental Typography' won't be black and white, just one or the other. I wanted to see which would look better. 

David Kalkbrenner's ideations/spreads

  The topic of my book is The Experimental Typography of Stefan Sagmeister. Stefan Sagmeister started a diary at the age of 14. In this diary, he titled his entries ‘Things I have learned so far in my life.” After coming up with fifteen entries, he began to typographically design them in strange and creative ways and present them in various places all over the world. In my book I want to show off his extremely orginal typographic work.

  Since his work is so over the top, the style of my book will comment that by being subtle and not trying to compete with his work. The body text will be Baskerville bold and the captions will be Helvetica. Each chapter will be a different diary entry and the chapter openers will be the title of the diary entry hand-drawn with decorative additions that I will also use throughout the book. Color for now will be black and white since the images are so colorful and vivid.

  The chapter openers are temporary at the moment. They will be refined for the final.
