Shereen's Poster Comps

  1. The odd shift that occurs with the tunnel becoming an arch in abridge is good. A shift in perspective, scale. Unfortunately the track/tunnel and train are boring. Don't be so graphically literal. You can convey train, track and tunnel without resorting to cliché. Do we need to see the whole train? Maybe just a hard crop of the locomotive coming into the frame? More change in scale in the railroad ties? Thick to thin from front to back? More abstract and geometric. Maybe no railroad ties at all and just a white triangle form suggesting "path towards tunnel"? Dead center or clearly/deliberately offset. Right now it is neither. What does this have to do with The Ind. Rev. and typography? Steam powered presses, yes?

For the second poster - this is much more visually engaging, but I'm not sure what it has to do with the title. Maybe there is a way to combine these poster concepts? Title: "Modernization by Rail: The Printing Press & the Industrial Revolution". Write a brief sentence describing as specifically as you can, the concept, what this title means. Like a summary for a book. Use this as a guide when working on the poster. Keep going back to the sentence and ask whether the poster is conveying this sentence.

BTW, these images should be .gif or .png files - they will look much crisper and you will be able to post larger sizes. JPGs are for photos, yes?

  2. And how about another color? For accent. Would give you a some more options and possibilities for semantic connections, highlight, etc.
