I was also working on this on the side, because I was unsure how effective my first idea was. Each box is a mini poster for each term with the other terms from the map that influenced that term inside. The boxes are ordered by hierarchy with the terms on the left with the thinner weight and the lighter blue boxes the lowest and the ones with the thickest weight and the darkest blue the highest.

That's interesting. Kind of like the weight system for Universe and the periodic table (which clearly have similarities in terms of a methodical structure and system.
ReplyDeleteIs it a time-progression from left to right? It's not clear. What are the connections between these elements? Do the different tints indicate relationships? Vertical or horizontal alignment? Figure out what th system and rules are first. Then make them clear through color, scale, placement/relationships/gorupings, etc. and then make it very clear, balanced and hierarchical with the type.
Not sure about the type hanging out over the right boundaries of the squares. Nothing wrong with it, just that it is very inconsistent throughout and winds up being distracting. Maybe change the sizes of the squares? It doesn't have to mimic the Universe layout exactly. Make it your own.
